On January 28, a press conference session of the Rector of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University was held as an important public event. It called media representatives from Volyn and neighbouring regions.
The presidium, in addition to Rector Anatolii Tsios, was comprised by the Vice Rector for Educational Work and Communication Nataliia Blahovirna, the Vice Rector for Educational Work and Recruitment Yurii Hromyk, the Vice Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Innovation Vadym Ulianov, the Vice Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and Technical Provision Anatolii Fedoniuk, and the Head of the Information Policy Department Andrii Moshkun.
At the beginning of the press conference, the achievements and the prioritised areas of Volyn National University’s development were unveiled by Anatolii Tsios. A particular achievement mentioned was the team building and creation of a positive atmosphere for quality education. The important points in managing the university lecturers include strict quality of services requirements, as well as a system or rewards for outstanding achievements.
The five key areas mentioned by Anatolii Tsios, are the following: the promotion of Lesya Ukrainka's legacy, particularly in Poland; close cooperation with the region’s communities; work with foreign students; the introduction of the dual form of education; and the construction of a modern sports complex at the “Hart” campsite.
However, the staff of the University is eager to follow up and boldly sets new ambitious goals. Thus, the successful publishing experience of the 14-volume collection of Lesya Ukrainka’s works served a favorable incentive for a new project. A collection of works by the famous Volynian woman writer Olena Pchilka is going to be published in 2023 by the University commemorating her 175th anniversary.
The achievement emphasized by Anatolii Tsios concerned a large number of students entering the University the current year, having chosen Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University as their first priority. Moreover, this trend has been growing steadily, which testifies to the authority of higher education. The increasing number of foreign students is also important. Many Chinese entrants have joined the university community this year. The Rector is sure that next will attract even more. It is not only an opportunity for educational services to be provided, but also a way of enhancing the intercultural cooperation.
Certain questions from the media were related to this year's enrolment campaign and the new specialties announced earlier. At the press conference, 2022 was announced as the University’s year of engagements for enrollment of students for the new "Law Enforcement" specialty.
"This is a very interesting specialty with regulations. In other words, launching educational activities in this specialty requires a license. Currently, the University is doing all necessary paperwork for the license. The documents were submitted to the Ministry of Education and Science. We are now waiting for the commission to arrive. To do such activities very favourable foundations are possessed. Now we want to make an electronic shooting range and buy a polygraph to create a laboratory. We will thus provide a consistent education,” Anatolii Tsios specified.
There are even more innovations planned for the new enrolment campaign. The enrolment for a new educational programme in the specialty "National Security" was announced by the Vice Rector Yurii Hromyk, with a range of introduced changes. From now on, it will provide training of analysts and organisers for the national security field. In addition, the Faculty of International Relations will have an educational programme related to international security, which is of high importance today.
Over the last two years, the University has significantly improved its material basis. The renovations in dormitories and educational buildings have positively influenced the living conditions and the quality of educational process. According to the Rector, repairs are also planned around the faculties and at the ground floor of the central building. The large-scale construction is also underway. In particular, there are plans for new educational buildings and dormitories.
The construction of the sports complex at the “Hart” campsite is in process, as well. The Rector thanked the Volyn Regional Council and the Volyn Regional State Administration for their support: “The presence of such sports complex in Svitiaz is very important. The development of the region's tourism potential will be boosted. Competitions and training camps will be held on the accomplished site. The Shatsk region will seize an opportunity to raise funds. We must remain pragmatic in our work. The “Hart” camp practice base should be open and profitable throughout the year. A sports complex will allow attracting teams at different times of the year. Accordingly, a flow of funds to the University is expected. At the same time, the Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University is working on sports development. We have a women's volleyball team and a basketball team. We are also forming a men's volleyball team at the moment."
