A unique multimedia laboratory was opened on the basis of the Faculty of Foreign Philology of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University. The event took place on June, 22. University authorities, teachers and students of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University took part in this event. Media representatives were also present.
The laboratory provides a unique opportunity for simultaneous translation not only for educational purposes, but also in the course of international events, meetings and presentations. The location is equipped with mobile booths and all the required gadgets including an interpreter console, headsets, a digital mixing panel, transmitters, receivers, charging devices, etc.
The event began with the opening speech presented by the dean of the Faculty of Foreign Philology, Larysa Makaruk: “This laboratory for simultaneous translation includes a hundred transmitters that make it possible to provide synchronized translation not only in the immediate location but also at a certain distance. We teach six foreign languages at the Faculty of Foreign Philology: English, German, French, Chinese, Swedish, and Spanish. All these languages that are part of our curricula can be practiced in this laboratory, so that our students could develop their translation skills in the future”. The dean of the Faculty of Foreign Philology expressed gratitude to the Rector of the University, Anatolii Tsos, for this up to date location and gave the floor to him.
“It is a crime to work poorly during the war; consequently education must be of really high quality. Our students must be provided with the best education in our region and beyond. Such a laboratory will significantly improve the quality of education at the University. The opening of the simultaneous translation laboratory, especially in the time when we are purposefully moving towards the European Union, is an essential condition for high quality education. We also plan to provide services to everyone who will need them,” – the Rector pointed out.
Natalia Blahovirna, Vice-Rector for educational work and communication, addressed the audience with the words of congratulation. “I am certain that this laboratory will be filled with creativity. Such locations help our students become highly qualified specialists”, – she summarized.
In conclusion, the participants were demonstrated how the laboratory works. The students had an opportunity to try to translate the speech of the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
