On September 9th, pre-season “Old Lutsk-University” press-conference was held at the VNU sports complex.
In the conference participated President of the “Old Lutsk-University” basketball club, Olexii Melnyk; chief coach Volodymyr Zhurzhii; Vice President of the club, Dmytro Chaikovskyi; Head of the Regional Council, Hryhorii Nedopad; VNU Rector Anatolii Tsios; Head of the Department of Youth and Sports of Lutsk City Council, Volodymyr Zakhozhyi; and Captain of “Old Lutsk-University”, Eduard Fedchuk.
The event began with the introductory speeches of the participants. The first to speak was “Old Lutsk-University” President, Olexii Melnyk, who thanked the authorities, the representatives of business, and the University for support. “I am very glad to see everyone before the start of the season. Very soon we will be able to evaluate our level of preparation for the beginning of the championship. I hope that this year, we will please everyone with our victories”, Olexii Melnyk said.
Rector of the University, Anatolii Tsios, reassured everyone that VNU would continue supporting the “Old Lutsk-University” club. As he said, new cooperation on performances of teams on different levels was to be awaited, namely on the levels of the 1st and the Student League, and the University Games. “Thank you for the opportunity to cooperate with a good sports club like this”, he said.
Head of Volyn Regional Council Hryhorii Nedopad also stated that the Council would assist the club. In addition, he mentioned the previous emotional season, and shared his expectations of the upcoming championship: “We cannot wait to see how the team has prepared for this season”.
According to chief coach Volodymyr Zhurzhii, the players have been training thoroughly for the new season. The championship, which is to to begin on October 3rd, will be challenging to the team. “We are waiting to get the medals, and we are aimed to”, the coach said.
Vice President of the club, Dmytro Chaikovskyi, reminded everyone of the achievements of the team at the 3x3 basketball match. This year, the team is to play in the 1st Ukrainian League. As the Vice President said, “We just hope that the bleachers will be full this year, and everything else will be left to us”.
Head of the Department of Sports and Youth of Lutsk City Council Volodymyr Zahozhii spoke on the ongoing development of basketball on different levels, from minor to professional ones, and on how the Youth Sports School #4 had recently created a new position for a basketball coach. “I wish the club to achieve further victories and confidence in the future”, the Head concluded.
