Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University hosted a solemn academy “Nurturing Scientists” organized by the Volyn Regional Junior Academy of Sciences.
The Center for Culture and Leisure brought together MAS students, winners of the regional competition for the defense of research papers by MAS students, their teachers-mentors, Rector Anatolii Tsios, Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical Work and International Cooperation Liudmyla Yelisieieva, Vice-Rector for Educational Work and Communication Nataliia Blahovna, Head of the Department of Education and Science of the Volyn Regional State Administration Nataliia Matviuk, and representatives of the Volyn Regional Minor Academy of Sciences.
At the beginning of the event, Tetiana Mykhaliuk, Director of the Volyn Regional Minor Academy of Sciences, told the audience about the work of the institution and its representatives during the school year. In particular, Tetyana Mykhaliuk noted that the Volyn Regional MAS has fruitful cooperation with the administration and faculty of the University.
Tetiana Vadymivna said that in the 2023-2024 academic year, 38 scientific sections worked at Lesya Ukrainka National University, which is six more than in the 2022-2023 academic year. Almost 500 students worked in 47 groups of full-time and part-time study. Last academic year, a new project, Scientific Studies, was launched. In addition, together with the University, we organized tournaments for young scientists (biologists, geographers, historians, journalists), the Young Volyn Writers competition, defense competitions, scientific picnics, and implemented the Summer of Science and the Heavenly Legion of Volyn projects, which have already gained interest at the Ukrainian level.
Tetyana Mykhaliuk also spoke separately about the My Family Tree contest, organized jointly with the Faculty of History, Political Science, and National Security.
“Together, we have involved almost five thousand children and adults from all over Ukraine in various projects. Despite a difficult year and all the challenges, nine students became scholarship holders of the President of Ukraine, seven of them are students of the University's scientists. 130 students of the stationary sections won the second stage of the All-Ukrainian competition for the defense of research papers. Of these, 61 projects were developed at Lesya Ukrainka National University. We have 16 awards of the final stage of the defense competition out of 35, which Volyn won thanks to the experienced mentoring of the University's teachers,” Tetiana Vadymivna said.
Before awarding the best students, Rector Anatolii Tsios noted that he was extremely pleased to be with smart students who want to develop and learn new things.
“We live in a difficult time and we must, in addition to our main activities, work to help the Defense Forces of Ukraine and honor all the Heroes,” said the rector and called on all those present to honor the memory of the fallen soldiers with a minute of prayer.
Afterward, Anatolii Vasylovych spoke about the advantages of Lesya Ukrainka University, the achievements of its representatives and future plans.
“This year, together with the Minor Academy of Sciences and the Department of Education and Science, we are preparing a conference dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Olena Pchilka's birth. In addition, the University's scholars are preparing an academic collection of the writer's works, which will be the first in Ukraine. I can talk about many indicators of the educational institution, but our main achievement is active and creative students, and we try to support them. If you want to be active and be noticed, I invite you all to join our large university family,” said Anatolii Tsios.
The Rector, together with Nataliia Matviuk, Head of the Education and Science Department of the Volyn Regional State Administration, and vice-rectors, awarded the heads and presented the students and their mentors with certificates and other awards for their success at various events at the global, national and regional levels.
