Year of the department’s creation: 1993

Department staff:

There are 26 instructors and 2 laboratory assistants who are members of the staff. There are 16 instructors with PhD. degrees, including 1 full professor and 12 associate professors.

Research topics of the department:

The staff as a whole is researching the topic: “The Cognitive Bases and Pragmatic Semantic Characteristics of Language Units in Discourses of Different Types.”

The teachers on the staff take part in scientific conferences at Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University, as well as in national and international conferences.

Publications of the department:

The department is continually working on the publication of textbooks and manuals. In the last years 17 textbooks were published, as well as 18 manuals and many research articles, which appeared in Ukrainian and foreign linguistic journals.

Additional information:

The department maintains ties with German universities, thus giving both teachers and students the possibility of academic exchanges.  Among our regular partners are theUniversityofApplied Sciencein Lemgo and thePedagogicalUniversityin Vechta.

Since 2009 lecturers from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) have been working in the department. It is a unique chance for the professors, instructors and students to improve their educational and scientific levels via internships and trainings. The students also have an opportunity to take language tests and get the certificates for the further education abroad. DAAD provides constant enlargement of the department resource center collection by sending textbooks and manuals.

NGO “Brücken SchlagUkraine” (“Bridges toUkraine”) provides a two-months internship inGermany. During this internship the students live in German families, work at the state plants and organizations, and study the German culture. Each year members of this NGO, namely Honorary Professor Manfred Möller, conduct lectures at the Institute of foreign Philology.

The Center for German language study (SLZ), which is the partner of Goethe-Institute in Kyiv, functions at the department since 2005. Goethe-Institute’s office in Kyiv gives our professors and instructors a chance to take part in various professional trainings inUkraineand in Germany.
