Main research activities:

The Department staff conducts research within the framework of the “Functioning of Language Units in the Cognitive Discursive Paradigm” theme. The field of research covers Cognitive Linguistics, Discourse Analysis, Methods of Foreign Language Teaching, Lexicography, Distance Learning, New Information Technologies, and Translation.

The Department holds the “Key Aspects of Contemporary Applied Linguistics” roundtable meetings (biennially) and “Applied Research of Discourse” annual scientific-practical seminar.

The Department trains Bachelors of Philology (training area 6.020303 Philology (Applied Linguistics)), Specialists (speciality 7.02030303 Applied Linguistics) with qualification for – Applied Linguist, Teacher of English, German and Informatics; Masters of Philology (speciality 8.02030303 Applied Linguistics) with qualification for – Master of Philology, specialist in Applied Linguistics, Teacher of English and German, Applied Programmer.

Graduates have the right to work as: interpreters, teachers of English and German, programmers, press secretaries, copywriters, journalists, correctors, editors, and Applied Linguists scientists.

International collaboration:

The Applied Linguistics Department collaborates with the Consulate-general of The Polish Republic in Lutsk, The Institute of Neophilology in the High Professional School in Chelm (PWSZ), and the “Ukrainikum” Center of John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. Students of the Department take part in “Work and Travel” and “Summer Practice for Students in Germany” international training programs.

Participation of instructors and students in scientific and translation projects:

“Applied Linguistics” students took part at the Festival of Polish films, which took place on April 10-12, 2014 in Lutsk, and translated the “Komeda – musical paths of life” film. The Department students made oral translations for foreign delegations during the “International Youth Forum. Lutsk-2013”, which was held on November 30 – December 1, 2013, and during the Second International Youth Forum 2014, which was held on October 18-19, 2014, coordinated by Senior Instructor of the Applied Linguistics Department, Olena Kotys. The Applied Linguistics Department became a partner of the “Cultural Map of Lutsk. An Attempt to Reveal a Cultural Resource by Youth Eyes” project (the project organizer – European Cultural Foundation, Amsterdam).

The Department instructors A.L. Levchuk, L.L. Makaruk, D. Puffalt, O.O. Rohach took part in the translation project of 2 parts of the presentation album “Lesia Ukrainka Eastern European National University in the Context of European Education of the 21st century. Faculties and Institutes” and “Lesia Ukrainka Eastern European National University in the Context of European Education of the XXI century. History and the Present”.

The Department instructors I.P. Biskub and A.L. Levchuk hold “The Art of Public Speaking training seminars for civil servants in the State School of Post-Diploma Education”, The Volyn Regional Center of Retraining and Advanced Training of employees from public authorities, local governments, state enterprises, facilities and organizations.

The Applied Linguistics Department provides English Certificate Courses (Viktoriya Novak).
