Volunteer Centre of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University is functioning on the basis of the Faculty of History, Political Science and National Security.
The Head of the centre Solomiia Prokhorenko says that the volunteer platform was opened on the first days of the war. The faculty students united and started working. Later, young people from other faculties of the University joined them. In particular, volunteer assistance was provided by students of the Faculty of Economics and Management.
“From the first days of the war, we started collecting food for the Territorial Defence, and the National Police. Then medicine was collected. Some supplies were taken to Kyiv and hot spots of the country,” the volunteer said.
The lady noted that the need for insulin, salbutamol, for people with diabetes and asthma, is especially urgent.
Later on, the medicine collected in Lutsk was transferred to the front line.
According to Solomiia, despite the slightly decreased flow of people willing to help with things and food, the stock is full, and the University’s volunteers systematically send help to those needing it. They are currently helping people who have been forced to flee their homes due to the war.
“We are handing over most of what we have collected to the migrants. They show the relevant document and receive help,” explains the coordinator of the volunteer center.
According to her, people who came from Kharkiv, Kyiv, Bucha, and Hostomel apply for help.
“Most people ask for food and clothes,” Solomiia Prokhorenko added. Immigrants also need things for young children, baby food.
At the time of writing, Lesya’s volunteers were collecting food for servicemen under the charge of the South Operational Command, so it is likely that a defender is enjoying the transfer from Volyn right now.
Solomiia said that people also asked for animal food. In such cases, volunteers announced a fundraiser and collection of appropriate products. Then the delicacies for four-legged migrants were purchased and given to pet owners. The peculiarity of the volunteer centre at Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University is that it collects not only things and food, but also spiritual bread, literature of various genres.
“Not only products but also books are collected. We mostly send literature to different cities of Poland for Ukrainian refugees. In particular, the city of Łódź. We try to provide any help possible,” another member of the volunteer center, Inna Kondratovych, said.
The ladies mention that the idea of collecting literature sparked spontaneously. There is also a demand for such assistance.
The volunteer said that the centre also provides informational assistance for internally displaced persons, in particular, information about Lutsk, employment options for refugees. .
“We have a list of vacancies not only from Lutsk district, but also from other districts of Volyn for people having troubles finding a job, but really wanting to. In addition, our lecturers organised weekly tours of Lutsk and consultations for people to get better around the city,” Inna Kondratovych said.
In general, the volunteers sincerely believe in Ukraine’s victory and try to make every effort to bring it closer.
